The Signfix Ground socket is manufactured from strong structural grade 6261 T5 or T6 alloy with Stainless Steel T304 security locking screws to retain the post. All ground sockets are powder coated to prevent corrosive attack of the aluminium by the concrete. Ground Sockets should be installed with no more than 30-60mm showing above ground level. Security locking screws should be orientated in the direction of the sign face and torqued to 18Nm2. Non-standard lengths are available to suit specific design requirements. All ground sockets supplied are fitted with a cap on the base. The cap acts as a pole stop and provides a significant advantage for installers as it prevents concrete from entering the socket when it is being positioned in the foundation.

The Signfix Ground Socket is a purpose made product with a wall thickness of 5mm which prevents damage to the socket wall in accident situations - facilitating simple pole replacement. The ground socket for the 89,102 and 114mm diameter fluted poles have a raised internal wedge that the pole flute slides into to counter pole rotation. Signfix Ground Sockets are designed to be installed into concrete foundations which meet the requirements of the RSMA COMPLIANCE STANDARD FOR TRAFFIC SIGNS:2008 for Small Signs and AS/NZS1170. Please note that this document requires Poles and Ground Sockets to be embedded to within 100mm of the bottom of the foundation.

Both NZTA P/24:2008 Specification and the RSMA Standard:2008 require that unless foundations are specifically designed minimum support post planting depth shall be one fifth of the mounting height, but not less than 1m depth. The Signfix Ground Socket is not designed to provide reinforcing for foundations. Foundation detail i.e. depth and size should be determined by an engineer pending ground conditions, the number of posts, and the size of the sign and windloading. When used in concrete foundations, substantial enough to withstand crash impact, the Signfix Ground Socket has the following advantages:
• Economical and time saving installations avoiding the use of props to support poles while concrete foundations cure.
• Eliminates vandalism to poles/foundations before concrete has set.
• Economical replacement of damaged poles with no need to dig out and replace foundations. Simply remove the damaged pole from the ground socket and replace. Only one site visit required, no construction workers or plant and the damaged sign is replaced with minimal delay.
